Metehan Irak received his undergraduate degree in Psychology from the Faculty of Languages, and History-Geography of Ankara University (1992), and completed his M.Sc. (1996) and Ph.D. studies in Experimental Psychology at Hacettepe University. Following his doctorate, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Ottawa Institute of Mental Health Research (2004–2009) and lectured at the University of Ottawa School of Psychology (2007–2009). During his tenure at Bahçeşehir University (2009–2025), he established and directed the Brain and Cognition Research Laboratory, the Cognitive Neuropsychology Master’s Program, and the Psychology Application and Research Center. His research has been supported by the University of Ottawa Medical Research Fund, the Ontario Centre of Excellence for Child and Youth Mental Health, and TÜBİTAK.
Metehan Irak’s research interests focus on the neuropsychological and neurobiological foundations of metacognition, memory, decision making, and executive functions. He investigates these processes in both healthy individuals and clinical populations (such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, epilepsy, depression, and anxiety disorders) using neuropsychological assessments and neuroimaging methods, particularly electroencephalography (EEG).
